Description :- The Instrument is used to determine amount of carbon residue left after evaporation and pyrolysis of oil. A weighed quantity of sample is placed in crucible and subjected to destructive distillation. The residue undergoes through cracking and coking reactions during a fixed period of heating. At the ned of heating the crucible is removed, cooled, kept in a dessicator and weighed. The residue remaining is calculated as % of original sample.
