Description : Fordcups are used to determine the Flow time of Paints, Varnishes, Lacquers and other viscous products by simple empirical flow test. It consists of a container of specified dimensions with an orifice through which the sample flows and the variations in Viscosity of a product due to processes of blending and dilution are indicated by the change in Efflux times. The base is supported with 3 levelling screws. A rod is provided with fixing knob to adjust the height of cup before test.

Procedure for use :

The test-sample shall be adjusted to the required temperature.
Disperse any entrained air bubbles during preparation or sieving and make the sample ready for the test.
The Flow cup shall be placed on the stand provided using a spirit level and adjusted using the levelling screws.
With the orifice closed by finger the cup shall be filled with a freshly sieve, bubble free test sample.
Level the cup properly. The test sample will overflow evenly over the rim into the gallery. A Suitable receiver shall be placed under the flowcup.
The Finger shall be removed from the orifice simultaneously starting the timing device and stopping it as soon as the first break occurs close to the orifice. The elapsed time represents the Flow-time of test-fluid.
